Press Release:

RED CANYON WIND ENERGY CENTER BEGINS COMMERCIAL OPERATION

OAKLAND (April 20, 2006) Another wind farm developed by Orion Energy, LLC of Oakland, California has begun producing clean and renewable electricity in the state of Texas. The Red Canyon Wind Energy Center is comprised of 56 1.5-megawatt wind turbines, manufactured by General Electric, spread over a 9,500 acre site approximately 100 miles northwest of Abilene, in Borden and Garza Counties. The turbines have a generating capacity of 84 megawatts, providing enough electricity to power more than 25,000 homes.

Orion Energy completed the development of the Red Canyon Wind Energy Center, and a subsidiary of FPL Energy, LLC, constructed, and now owns and operates, the wind farm. With the completion of the Red Canyon Wind Energy Center, Orion Energy has completed four wind farms in Texas.

Mike Haas, President of Orion Energy, stated, “At a time of increasing concern about fossil fuel prices and their impact on our economy, we are proud to see another wind farm developed by Orion produce electricity with a home-grown resource that reduces our dependence on imported energy sources and is not subject to increased costs resulting from ever stricter regulation of pollutants from fossil fuel power plants.”

Reid Buckley, Vice President of Orion Energy, added “Orion is very appreciative of the opportunity to work with local ranching families and with officials in Borden and Garza Counties in the course of the development of the Red Canyon Wind Energy Center. Their support was crucial to this project’s success.”
